Oscar Wilde once said that “When I was young I thought that money was the most important thing in life. Now that I am old, I know that it is.”

Of course, that’s one of an infinite number of quotations on the importance of money and its place in our lives. We go to work, get a paycheck, try to better our station; but there’s more to it than that. How do we make it work for us? What are the best ways to invest what we have and prepare for retirement, saving for our childrens’ education, buy that cabin in the woods, go see Paris–whatever it is we want before we are done on this Earth?

We reached out to our friends Christine Benz at Morningstar and Patrick Martin at Martin Investment Management for some advice.
